An Event Technological Marvel! MPI & Active Put Tech Front and Center at the 2020 Tech Summit and Phoenix Awards!

To say 2020 has been one for the books would be a severe understatement. But that has not stopped the resilience of event professionals of all walks of life, finding new ways to deliver their message to the masses. This was definitely true for MPI Georgia Chapter. The Chapter was set to do their annual Tech Summit in Mid-March at Truist Park with an impressive showing of tech-driven suppliers and keynote speakers talking about incorporating technology into the events and meetings industry. Little did any the MPI, Active or Truist team know exactly how technology was about to totally shift the entire industry. The event was set to take place the week that isolating in place was recommended. It was decided to reschedule the event. As the pandemic progressed and quarantine became the new norm, a vote was made by the Board of MPI Georgia Chapter to move the event to a Virtual Platform.

The goal of MPI is to educate event professionals and this remained the focus of the event. Since the event was going to be being viewed by attendees from their own computers, a recommendation was made to have the host location for be The Computer Museum of America located in Roswell, Ga. The facility is just over a year old and features a comprehensive walk down memory lane with historic super computers, personal computers, video game consoles, arcade machines, and an exhaustive array of exhibits. The center of the facility sports a scaled down replica of the moon landing, and this impressive area became the backdrop for where the Tech Summit would showcase presenters and the event's emcee, MPI Past President Abby Freeman.

The Active Team worked closely with MPI, very closely, as the Marketing Director (the guy currently typing this) sits on the board as the Director of Strategic Events and worked with a stellar committee to put together content and determine a virtual event platform that could get as close as possible to delivering the in-person experience of the Tech Summit and Phoenix Awards. The event sported virtual vendor tradeshow floors where suppliers, sales teams, and destinations could talk one-on-one with attendees. 3 keynote speakers were highlighted with "tech talks" given from remote locations. Corey Perlman, Lara Kongi, and Sean Specie delivered 3 different and relevant talks that covered Social Media best practices, engaging an audience virtually, and making the most of your digital impact.

Beyond the keynote "tech talks" there was a live Q&A session before moving on to the Phoenix Awards! Active was able to engage the nominees from their homes live and reveal in real time who the winners were allowing them to give their acceptance speeches and talk directly to the audience. After a series of accolades given to talented event professionals the event moved on to an interactive After Party with a virtual DJ set by the engaging Amp'd team. They talked to the audience, took requests, and allowed guests to go live on their cameras at home and party!

Bringing all of these elements together for one cohesive event took a dedicated Committee of Event Professionals, a committed vision, and a knowledgeable production team to broadcast the messaging out to the members and attendees. Active feels great privilege that we are able to support our industry during a time when live events are few and far between. Here's to the next event whether it be virtual or live! Stay safe out there and please don't hesitate to reach out to Active Production and Design if we can be of service for your next event, whether it be Virtual/Hybrid/Live, we are equipped to safely produce your message in an engaging way.

It takes a tech village to pull off a well-produced virtual event!
