Let's talk about AV and the event industry as a whole.

Active and MPI Deliver the "WOW" at the 2019 Phoenix

- Submitted by Brad Gibson, Director of Marketing and Business Development, Active Production and Design

On June 20th, Meeting Planners International Georgia Chapter celebrated their annual Phoenix Awards at World of Coca-Cola in Downtown Atlanta. The yearly event awards MPI members who have made a significant impact on the chapter and on the meeting and events industry in general. Active Production and Design was thrilled to once again be the audiovisual production sponsor for the affair. Active also had the privilege of having one of their own nominated for an award.

This event, whose attendees are a "who's who" of meeting and event planning professionals, is typically a seated and plated dinner meaning the awards happen as everyone sits at their tables and are served dinner and drinks. The World of Coca-Cola, however, is an atypical venue that offers areas of exploration and MPI wanted to take full advantage of the offerings. The program format was changed to have guests sit in the theater for the awards. Usually the awards portion is the bulk of the evening taking up 2 or more hours. This year, with the new format the awards were condensed to one hour, and it was a thrilling change of pace.
As mentioned, Active had one of their own team members nominated for an award. That award was the "Rising Star of the Year" award that is given to someone with 3 or fewer years of experience in the industry that is someone to look out for. Active's Director of Marketing and Business Development, Brad Gibson, was nominated and WON! Along with this, Brad was one of the co-chairs of the event, has contributed to several committees and events for MPI in the past, and just took on the role of Director of Strategic Events for the chapter.

Now that we've celebrated that win, back to the evening. The awards portion of the evening moved swiftly without feeling rushed and every award recipient was able to give their heartfelt thanks for their recognition. As the transition of Presidents happened, Abby Freeman, the incoming MPI President, surprised outgoing President Tim Barrett with an appearance of a Dolly Parton performing drag queen, who came out with a performance of "9 to 5" as the theater opened giving way to the celebration, which would serve as the bulk of the evening's festivities. The celebration included fantastic food by Legendary Events and Proof of the Pudding as well several photo opportunities, meet and greets with the ever-popular polar bear, karaoke, a taste-it bar featuring Coca-Cola products from all over the world, and more!
The evening was a resounding success that saw MPI Georgia taking a risk on a tried and true format, and the consensus was that it paid off! Active would like to congratulate all the nominees, winners, and celebrate the many MANY sponsors who were able to contribute to the success of the event.
